[Anime Art Academy] A simple way to make anime eyes more memorable
Published 13 days ago • 1 min read
Hello Fellow Artists, Reader,
Today, we’d like to share a simple drawing tip that can instantly make your anime faces feel more appealing:
✨ The eyes matter more than most artists realize.
A face can already have decent structure, and yet still feel a little “off.” Very often, the problem is not the whole face — it is the eyes.
When the eyes are placed well, balanced properly, and designed with care, the entire character feels more alive, expressive, and memorable.
1. Start with a simple guide shape One helpful approach is to begin with a simple guide shape for the eye area. This makes it much easier to control the size, angle, and direction of both eyes from the start.
2. Small details make a big difference Once the basic placement is correct, details begin to matter more. The shape of the lashes, the placement of the iris and pupil, and the highlights inside the eye all help create more personality.
3. Study different eye styles Looking closely at different eye designs is a great way to improve. By comparing shapes, lashes, and highlights, you can better understand what makes each style feel unique.
4. Use guide points for better control Another useful technique is to think of the eye as a set of controlled points rather than a random shape. Guide points can help you place the corners, lash line, and lower lid more accurately.
5. Polish creates expression Once the structure is working, even small design choices can make the eye feel much more polished and professional.
✨ That is exactly the kind of skill we focus on in our new face drawing lessons.
